MAC has long been known for their Prep + Prime Eye formulas. They are adding to their expertise two new products with their Primed for Perfection Collection. There is the Prep + Prime Vibrancy Eye and the Prep + Prime Highlighter.

Both are meant to add diversity to an already great product line by perfecting the skin for concealer application. The formulas are specifically designed for the delicate eye area. I know that I end up with dark circles under my eyes quite often and anything MAC can to do help in that area I am grateful for. The Prep + Prime Vibrancy Eye is supposed to really help reduce puffiness under the eyes not just immediately but long term as well. It is lightweight so you don’t end up looking like you have layers of makeup caked on after your concealer. I might try the vibrancy eye without concealer just to see what improvements it makes on my eyes.

I am really excited about the Highlighter as it can be used under concealer and as a touch up over concealer throughout the day and evening. It works like a click pen so it is easy to take on the go. The pen feature also allows you to really target the areas you want to luminate with precision. The Highlighter comes in three tones. I am excited about the light shell pink as I think it will work with my skin tone well.

First off, always remember this little rule. Colors are complimented best by shades that are opposite from them on the color wheel. For instance, blues and violets are complimented well by yellows and oranges. With eye makeup for blue eyes, this doesn’t mean you need to bust out bright orange or yellow eyeshadow, however. It does mean that you incorporate those shades into your choices of color families. The yellow and orange color families in the eye makeup world include a whole slew of colors including gorgeous golds, bronzes, peaches and tans. Eyeshadow shades from these colors families will help make blue eyes stand out. If you have bluish-violet eyes, try a nice gold shade, like Goldmine powder eyeshadow from MAC. If you have more of a greyish blue eye, try a bronze color such as MAC’s powder eyeshadow in Amber Lights. As a general rule, chocolate brown, beige, bronze and gold will work very well for blue eyes.

You’ll also want to take your skin’s undertone into account. For example, let’s say you’re considering trying a light brown eyeshadow shade. If your skin is on the cooler side, choose a cooler version of brown like MAC’s powder eyeshadow in Era. If you have warmer skin, you can pull off a warmer version of brown, such as MAC’s powder eyeshadow in Soba. Soba and Era are very close in color depth, but Soba is a warmer version than the other. If you have very light skin or very dark skin, you will probably be looking for a very dark chocolate brown or a very light beige shade as opposed to just a light brown. You should start with the basic general shade based on your eye color and skin depth, and then try to find a version of that color that compliments your overall warm or cool undertone.

You can also experiment with various shades of eyeshadow for blue eyes by visiting a makeup counter. This will give you the chance to try dozens of shades and get eye makeup tips for blue eyes in person based on your individual eye shade and coloring.

MAC’s spring line is starting out fierce with the new collection Jeanius. The collection offers products from eyeshadow, liner, and blush, to lipstick, lipglass, and nail lacquer. As implied by the name, this collection speaks to the denim lover in each of us.

After first glance at all of the products offered in this collection it doesn’t necessarily strike me as a spring collection. When I think of spring, I think of soft pinks, purples and even yellows. This collection does offer some of those, but it mainly includes a lot of grays and blues. I love that the collection name so specifically fits the color scheme. And you do have to hand it to MAC for the way they play on words. At least the name of the collection is genius even if the complete color scheme is not.

And as pretty as I think some of the colors look, I am not exactly sure how they will look on. For me, it takes the right outfit and the right venue to want to wear blue eye makeup. If blues aren’t done right, they just look cheap to me. But MAC does often get it right so I am willing to give this collection a chance.
Some of the nail lacquer colors are particularly interesting to me. I find that I get more into nail polish at the change of the seasons. Spring truly brings out my desire to have my toes nicely painted and my fingers matching in style. Fray-to-order looks like it will be a really pretty color. It is a white matte with soft pink duochrome pearl.

When my nails are painted, I like to have my lip color match when appropriate. I am not sure that any of these lip colors offered in this collection match completely, but I think that the lipstick shade Pretty Please might compliment the nail color nicely. I am excited to try it.
