From time to time, <a href="http://www.sokissandmakeup.com/mac-cosmetics/"title="MAC Cosmetics Makeup Tips" >MAC collaborates with celebrities and fashion designers to come up with a special collection. From Liza Minelli to Hello Kitty, MAC is always finding an interesting twist for their makeup. After lots of speculation, now it is official: MAC is teaming up with Disney to create Venomous Villains, a collection of <a href="http://www.sokissandmakeup.com"title="Makeup Tips" >makeup inspired by the villainous characters in some of Disney’s most popular movies. Yes, that’s right- Disney. It may seem like an unlikely combination but think more along the lines of Cruella de Vil and Maleficent than Donald Duck and you’ll see that MAC has plenty of fodder for this collection.

One of the main draws of this collection is a new product called Magically Cool Liquid Powder. This is a powder highlighter that feels cool and refreshing on the face and appears to melt into skin and give a finish more like the kind you’d expect from a liquid. Truth and Light is the best choice for lighter skin tones with its sheer color and silvery-pink shimmer, whereas the bronzey Cajun is perfectly suited to medium to dark skin.

The Mineralize Eye Shadows in this collection are stunning. She Who Dares combines a dark green and pearlescent lime with a pearly navy blue. The two colors look great together and even better when worn in conjunction with the blackish green French Quarter Greasepaint stick.

Hot House Deep <a href="http://www.sokissandmakeup.com/mac-cosmetics/lipglass/"title="MAC Lipglass" >lipglass from Strange Hybrid is back. This is a surprisingly wearable blue-based raspberry gloss with a pink shimmer that gives the illusion of fuller lips. There is also a great <a href="http://www.sokissandmakeup.com/blush/"title="Blush" >blush called Bite of an Apple that gives cheeks a coral flush and looks particularly nice on Snow White complexions. Heartless is a bright cherry red <a href="http://www.sokissandmakeup.com/lipstick/"title="Lipstick" >lipstick that is really hard for most people to pull off with everyday looks but would be great if you are actually dressing as a Disney villain for Halloween.

The packaging features the various Disney villains on top of the typical black MAC packaging with a fun twist- they are making different expressions on different products! Overall it’s a fun collection with some must-have products even for non-Disney fans.

Release Date: August 26, 2010

Fabulous Felines is one of those gigantic <a href="http://www.sokissandmakeup.com/mac-cosmetics/"title="MAC Cosmetics Makeup Tips" >MAC collections that seem to emerge each fall. If you think you can skip this one because you’re not a big fan of cats, think again. This collection is a lot more than just clever names. The colors stand on their own and will draw you in whether you want them to or not. The products in this collection are divided into three color themes: blue/grey/purple, golds, and smokey greens. There is also a designer bag that goes with each of the color themes.

MAC is unveiling its new Superslick Liquid Eyeliner in this collection. This liner is easier to apply than traditional liquid liners thanks to its innovative flocked tip and it also boasts the long lasting power of Liquidlast liners. The color selection is perfect for fall with metallic golds, silvers, and greens. Desires & Devices is a stunning sparkly forest green that can easily transition to holiday wear as well.

The eyeshadow quads take the stress out of choosing fall colors, with the Burmese Beauty Eye Quad being the most versatile and autumn-like of the three. There are lots of new <a href="http://www.sokissandmakeup.com/lipstick/"title="Lipstick" >lipsticks, lipglasses, and cremestick liners. The easy favorite here is A Quiet Roar <a href="http://www.sokissandmakeup.com/mac-cosmetics/lipglass/"title="MAC Lipglass" >lipglass with its soft white gold sheen.

Fabulous Felines also meets the expectations of pigment lovers with a new pigment called Bloodline. This pigment combines dark purple and dark brown to create a definitive answer for those who can’t seem to choose between the two shades when applying makeup. MAC also dug out some old favorites such as Antique Green. This pearly blue-green pigment almost looks like it was made to go with the new Desires & Devices Superslick liner.

This is indeed a large collection but it’s a very complete one and you could easily find everything you need to get through fall without having to look outside of the Fabulous Felines display cases.

Release Date: July 8th, 2010
International: August 2010

Excitement for MAC’s In The Groove collection began to mount pretty much as soon as it was announced. The reason for all the hype is the re-release of the highly coveted Stereo Rose Mineralize Skinfinish. This shimmery dark coral powder seems to be universally flattering. It suits fair skin when applied with a light hand and a heavier application gives darker skin a beautiful pink glow. This product was a limited edition release in Gold Play several years ago and has been commanding a high price tag in second-hand sales ever since. Finally everyone will get a chance to go to their <a href="http://www.sokissandmakeup.com/mac-cosmetics/"title="MAC Cosmetics Makeup Tips" >MAC counter and pay retail for it.

That being said, there is really so much more to In The Groove than just Stereo Rose so if you have already tried it and aren’t a fan, your pocketbook isn’t necessarily safe. In fact, Stereo Rose is just one of several Mineralize Skinfinishes that MAC has dug out from the archives for this collection. Petticoat, Comfort, and By Candlelight are a few other shades you may want to pick up while you can.

Mineralize <a href="http://www.sokissandmakeup.com/blush/"title="Blush" >Blushes and Mineralize Eye Shadow Trios also play a big role in In The Groove. Of the five limited edition blush duos, New Vibe is the easy favorite with touches of bronze to complement the rosy pink color. There are enough Mineralize Skinfinish Eye Shadow Trios to set the hearts of MAC shadow fans aflutter. Girls with lighter eyes will find the shades in Togetherness very flattering- a purple, grey, and lavender that look soft and elegant together. The green and beige shades in Calm, Cool, & Collected seem like they were custom made to help brown eyes pop.

The other big story in In The Groove is the limited edition Cremesheen Glasses. On the Scene is a pretty coral that is toned down with enough beige to make it wearable by people who want to wear coral but can never quite pull it off. Fashion Whim is a soft beige that is great for creating a nude lip look or toning down <a href="http://www.sokissandmakeup.com/lipstick/"title="Lipstick" >lipstick that is too bright.

Completing the collection are several new Cremesheen Lipsticks as well as some repromoted Powerpoints. The pearly purple Permaplum is one of those eyeliners everyone should own. One of the cremesheen lipsticks, All Styled Up, is a yellow-based pink which is perfect for those who can’t pull off cool-toned pinks as most lipsticks tend to be.

With so many products and colors to choose from, this is one of those collections that most MAC junkies will need to either budget for or avoid their MAC counters altogether during its release.

Release Date: July 8th, 2010
International: August 2010 (Japan and Korea only)

Alice + Olivia is a small but fun collection inspired by the fashion line of the same name. This is not one of those collections that is so dizzyingly large that you don’t know where to begin. Instead it consists of a few carefully selected items that are easy to get to know and equally easy to love.

Pigment lovers will rejoice in the three new shades that are coming out with Alice + Olivia. Later is unlike any other pigment <a href="http://www.sokissandmakeup.com/mac-cosmetics/"title="MAC Cosmetics Makeup Tips" >MAC has come out with so far- a black with purple shimmer that is perfect as a crease color or wet as a liner. Partylicious is another color that can’t be matched by any pigment you already own. This one is turquoise with silver shimmer. If It Sparkles is a bit more familiar. This white with pink pearl shade immediately calls to mind Pink Opal Pigment.

Dazzleglass Cremes are back with three shades that are worth a closer look. If It’s Pink is a pearly hot pink that is sure to get noticed. Sparklicious is a pearly milky pink shade that is subtle yet different enough to warrant purchasing as it would look great on top of many different <a href="http://www.sokissandmakeup.com/lipstick/"title="Lipstick" >lipstick colors. I.Want.Candy is a pearly yellow but don’t let its yellow appearance scare you off. It’s actually prettier and more subdued on the lips, much in the same way that Spring Bean Lustreglass was anything but green once applied.

The three Nail Lacquers in Alice + Olivia are nothing like traditional <a href="http://www.sokissandmakeup.com/tag/nail-polish/"title="Nail Polish" >nail polish colors. If you never stray from red or pink polish, you probably won’t give these a second look. And that would be a very big mistake. The shimmery bright purple So Rich So Pretty is unconventional without being gaudy. Morning. After is a turquoise polish that is neither too blue nor too green, making it a great starting point for someone who wants to step outside their comfort zone. For the really adventurous, there is the silvery-black Military polish.

Alice + Olivia is full of great colors that push the limits but are still fairly easy to pull off. Don’t judge these shades by how they look in the containers. Give them a try at your MAC counter and you will probably be very pleasantly surprised.

Dazzleglass Creme ($18.00 US / $21.50 CDN)

* If it’s Pink… – Hot pink with soft multi-dimensional pearlized pigments (Limited Edition)
* I.Want.Candy. – Hot yellow with soft multi-dimensional pearlized pigments (Limited Edition)
* Sparklicious – Creamy pale pinky white with soft multi-dimensional pearlized pigments (Limited Edition)

Pigment ($19.50 US/$23.50 CDN)

    * Later. – Black with transforming purple pearlized pigments (Limited Edition)
* Partylicious – Turquoise with silver pearlized pigments (Limited Edition)

Release Date: May 27, 2010 (in stores)
International: June 2010

THE BIGGEST, BADDEST, BOUFFANT LASHES EVER ARE MAKING NOISE WITH THEIR SEXY SWEEP… the most extremevolumization ever seen! Just like going to your hairdresser for the boldest Barbarella blowout you’d ever dare to wear, Opulash creates aesthetic extremes when it gets going, for a dramatic end look. It’s all in the brush: enlarged and engineered to grab roots, lift, hold, replicate, exaggerate, and build-out like an architect intent on astounding with structural sleight-of-hand. Pick up the brush – see it volumize and curl – and you’ll know the difference. Large diameter backs you up, tapered front tip makes inner corners sleeker to reach. Needless to say, no clumping or Spider-Woman Syndrome. Superlative separation, sublime innovation: Everything a M•A•C Artist lives for!

It seems that <a href="http://www.sokissandmakeup.com"title="Makeup Tips" >makeup companies are always coming out with new <a href="http://www.sokissandmakeup.com/mascara/"title="Mascara Reviews" >mascaras, each one claiming to be make lashes bigger, longer, and bolder than before. Many of us end up trying all of them because it can be difficult to find a good mascara. Many are misses right off the bat whereas others work well at first before somehow dropping in performance and being relegated to the back of the makeup drawer while we seek out the next big thing in mascara. Could MAC’s new Opulash be The One?

Opulash promises extreme volume and high drama. This mascara is specially formulated to create curl as well, which is not something you can find in most mascaras. They have also put a lot of effort into designing the brush, which is very fat and full on the bottom and more tapered at the top for reaching the corners.

As far as mascaras go, <a href="http://www.sokissandmakeup.com/mac-cosmetics/"title="MAC Cosmetics" >MAC Cosmetics does not have the best track record. It is perplexing how their mascaras fall so short when most of their other cosmetics are top quality. This is MAC’s latest attempt to prove to us that they can, in fact, create a very good mascara. Opulash is MAC’s answer to the very popular <a href="http://www.sokissandmakeup.com/dior-cosmetics/"title="Christian Dior Cosmetics" >Diorshow. It is offered in only one color, “Bad, Bad Black”. To create the most dramatic lashes ever, black is really the only color that will do the job so <a href="http://www.sokissandmakeup.com/mac-cosmetics/"title="MAC Cosmetics Makeup Tips" >MAC is keeping true to the theme here.

With Opulash, MAC has definitely created a winner. MAC does deliver on its promises as this mascara makes lashes look very full and long. While no mascara ever seems to make your lashes look just like the ads, this one does do a great job at everything it sets out to do. It also lasts much longer than any of MAC’s previous mascaras and is great at separating lashes as well. Finally the <a href="http://www.sokissandmakeup.com/mac-cosmetics/"title="MAC Makeup" >MAC makeup line has come up with a mascara that is sure to have legions of loyalists!

Opulash ($13.00 US/$15.50 CDN)

    * Bad, Bad Black – Black
