Alice + Olivia is a small but fun collection inspired by the fashion line of the same name. This is not one of those collections that is so dizzyingly large that you don’t know where to begin. Instead it consists of a few carefully selected items that are easy to get to know and equally easy to love.

Pigment lovers will rejoice in the three new shades that are coming out with Alice + Olivia. Later is unlike any other pigment MAC has come out with so far- a black with purple shimmer that is perfect as a crease color or wet as a liner. Partylicious is another color that can’t be matched by any pigment you already own. This one is turquoise with silver shimmer. If It Sparkles is a bit more familiar. This white with pink pearl shade immediately calls to mind Pink Opal Pigment.

Dazzleglass Cremes are back with three shades that are worth a closer look. If It’s Pink is a pearly hot pink that is sure to get noticed. Sparklicious is a pearly milky pink shade that is subtle yet different enough to warrant purchasing as it would look great on top of many different lipstick colors. I.Want.Candy is a pearly yellow but don’t let its yellow appearance scare you off. It’s actually prettier and more subdued on the lips, much in the same way that Spring Bean Lustreglass was anything but green once applied.

The three Nail Lacquers in Alice + Olivia are nothing like traditional nail polish colors. If you never stray from red or pink polish, you probably won’t give these a second look. And that would be a very big mistake. The shimmery bright purple So Rich So Pretty is unconventional without being gaudy. Morning.After is a turquoise polish that is neither too blue nor too green, making it a great starting point for someone who wants to step outside their comfort zone. For the really adventurous, there is the silvery-black Military polish.

Alice + Olivia is full of great colors that push the limits but are still fairly easy to pull off. Don’t judge these shades by how they look in the containers. Give them a try at your MAC counter and you will probably be very pleasantly surprised.

MAC’s To The Beach collection is filled with the sort of items you might expect to find in a summer collection – bronzes and bright colors that look great against tanned skin. Most of us find that the colors we’ve been wearing all winter just don’t look right once we start spending more time outdoors in the summer. MAC comes to the rescue once again with great selections in eye shadow, lipstick, and bronzers.

Everything in this collection features special beach-themed packaging. At first the green eyeshadow pots with white seashells outlined on the front are a bit jarring and almost look like they are not even from MAC. But these cases and the similar green blush compacts with their starfish design actually do have their charm. In fact, it’s fun to pull these out when you’re putting on your makeup and it also makes it easier to find the new summer shades among the sea of black shadow pots you probably have swimming in your makeup drawer. The Sweet & Punch shadow is a fun color that reminds me of key limes. It’s a festive shade perfect for an outdoor lunch or lounging on a boat.

The lipsticks here are perfectly suited to the theme if a bit predictable and boring. Lazy Day is the requisite blue-based pink that only the tannest among us can pull off. Beach Bound is a frosty peach shade that is great if you’re going for a nude lip look, especially if you pair it with the sparkly peach Flurry of Fun Lipglass also in this collection. The lipsticks come in orange tubes with white conch shells and the Lipglasses have orange caps emblazoned with seahorses.

Lustre Drops make a reappearance here from the Style Warrior collection. This is a multi-purpose liquid highlighter that helps you achieve a sun-kissed look. The golden bronze Sun Rush Lustre Drops are the perfect complement to a tan while the Pink Rebel Lustre Drops help give paler skin a fresh glow. Dot on with your fingers or blend into foundation or cream blush for a pearly glow. Scorcher Nail Lacquer could very well be one of the best Nail Lacquers MAC Cosmetics has ever released. It’s the perfect coral shade to paint on your toes for the beach but bright enough that you will want to confine its use only to the summertime.

The Marine Life High-Light Powder is a pressed powder highlighter that uses shades of pink, peach, bronze, and brown to transform the surface of the powder into a work of art depicting a seahorse swimming in the ocean. The design is so beautiful that you almost don’t want to use it but the powder gives such a nice glow that you don’t feel too bad about disturbing the scene.

The first thing about this Liberty of London inspired collection that jumps out at you is the packaging. This packaging has a bird and floral theme that is black and white in some places with splashes of color thrown in.

Frankly Fresh lipglass is a true nude lip gloss that isn’t too brown or boring. It’s more of a peachy nude that is slightly pearly and a great color for spring. This pairs well with the Peachstock Satin lipstick that is also offered. Ever Hip Cremesheen is a pretty coral lipstick that has a lot of pink to it for those who can’t pull off peach.

For the eyes, there is the Give Me Liberty of London matte pink eyeshadow as well as a repromote of Dame’s Desire from the Dame Edna collection which is a very fun frosty medium violet shade that fits in well with this collection. One of the prettiest items is the Birds & Berries Veluxe Pearl shadow. It’s a deep blue green color that is more green than blue with a bit of frost. It should come as no surprise that this, like most everything here, is limited edition. You can get almost the same shade in nail polish form in the Blue India Nail Lacquer.

There are also two makeup bags that feature the Liberty of London design. They come in small and medium sizes and have a zipper closure with a big flower pull. A rather expensive white scarf decorated with large red, orange, blue and green flowers rounds out this collection.

The items in Liberty of London do a great job of evoking imagery of London with the names and shades. The packaging is sure to start conversations while still being distinctly MAC-like.

The MAC Spring Colour Forecast is a four-part collection of colors for spring 2010. Yes, that’s right: four parts. All four will be released on the same day. This collection is so big it’s almost embarrassing. If you don’t have self-control, stay away from your MAC Cosmetics counter because even the pickiest makeup wearers are bound to find several things they can’t live without. The collections are dominated by pretty pastel colors typically associated with spring such as pinks and purples with some coral and bronze thrown in for good measure. There are also two new products making their debut.

Blush ombres are very large blushes that feature different colors blending into one another. For example, Azalea Blossom starts out with lilac at the top which slowly fades into a candy pink. You are supposed to swirl your brush around the compact to mix the colors together, although it’s conceivable that you could control the ratio somewhat with the right application technique. The Ripe Peach blush ombre is the only one that looks very wearable for most people- it’s a peach and pink combination that blends together to make cheeks look coral.

Crush metal pigments are a new twist on the traditional MAC pigments. They are sold in sets of four stackable jars that are reminiscent of sample jars. The formulation is slightly chunkier and much more metallic than their predecessors. Stacked 1 features pinks and purples whereas Stacked 2 consists of neutral bronze colors. The individual colors aren’t named and none of them are exact matches for any existing pigments. As the name implies, these are quite metallic so definitely skip these if mattes look best on you.

MAC has also redesigned their eyeshadow quad packaging in time for this collection, opting for a clear lid with magnetic closure. There are also a number of pink lipsticks here such as the shimmery hot magenta Pink Burst and the more subdued Phlox. Complementary Lipglasses and eye shadows round out the collection.

MAC in Lillyland is a Lilly Pulitzer inspired collection that features bright, bold colors reminiscent of the shades you might see on Florida socialites. The timing of this release is either odd or genius depending on how you look at it. Most of the colors scream “spring”, but then again, thoughts of spring are very uplifting in the middle of a dreary winter. These fun colors are a great way to combat the winter blues and will still get plenty of use come spring and summer.

The Pearlmatte Face Powder is one of the more interesting offerings in Lillyland. This pressed powder features a floral design with four colors that can be used alone or blended together to give a soft bronze look. It gives your skin a faint pearlish sheen without being over-the-top glimmery. The Pearlmatte Eye Shadow follows a similar concept, with separate shades of white, pink, and green in a pretty flower design that can be swirled together for a soft pearl finish or used separately. The four Lip Gelees in this collection are enhanced with pearlized glitter. The glitter can be appear prominent with a heavy application but a lighter hand can give a soft pearl finish. The glitter isn’t big or heavy enough to feel gritty on your lips. Lush & Bright is a peachy pink color that is very pigmented as far as Lipgelees go. It’s a bright coral with pink shimmer that is perfect for layering over some of your more boring shades of lipstick to help brighten them.

Cremeblend blushes are soft, creamy blushes that are perfect for drier skin. They are very easy to blend so don’t shy away from them if you’ve never used cream blush before. So Sweet, So Easy is a very muted baby pink that is perfect for very pale skin tones but way too soft to be noticeable on those with darker skin. The Joie-de-Vivre blush is perhaps the best item in the entire collection- a coral color that would look great on anyone and lends a natural flush to the cheeks.

All in all, MAC in Lillyland is a well-rounded collection that can be worn in any season so it’s definitely worth checking out.
