MAC: Superglass Collection
Release Date: May 7th, 2010
International: May 2010
Shattered, decimated, blinded by a fantastic, intergalactic lip light! Just when you thought Dazzleglass was the best-of bright, along comes Superglass, with secret, snowflake-shaped helicone pearls sparkling in three different facets for triple the dazzle! Lips have gone big bang, explosively dimensional, a rare eclipse! Gloss feels slick and sleek on application with no draggy speed bumps, not a hint of grit. A light aroma of vanilla enhances kissability. Extreme innovation that’s a good reflection on MAC and the seductress lucky enough to strike upon it.
If you thought Dazzleglass was as sparkly as lip gloss could possibly get, MAC has come out with something new that will prove you wrong. MAC decided to kick the glitter up yet another notch and the result is Superglass, a new lip gloss formula that surpasses even the high sparkle of Dazzleglass. MAC has come up with special multi-faceted glitter particles that reflect more light than ever without being too chunky, giving this gloss a technological edge over other similar glosses.
Superglass is not for the timid or cosmetically conservative. Make no mistake about it- this gloss is extremely glittery. Not shimmery, not sparkly, but full of straight-up glitter. It’s more for clubbing than every day wear. It is a bit thicker than other MAC glosses and slightly more pigmented as well to help give the glitter a good base. Although you can feel the glitter on your lips, it is not gritty at all like many other glittery glosses.
The collection will launch with nine sparkly colors that cover all the typical gloss shades so everyone will be able to find a color that suits them. These are all limited edition so don’t wait too long to decide or you may leave your MAC makeup counter empty-handed. Cherry Electric is a very bright cherry red that looks especially nice on lighter skin tones. Sugar Overload is one of the more unexpected shades- a glitter-packed beige that helps you get the sparkly look without having to wear a bright color at the same time. Fab Frenzy is a deep wine shade perfect for creating a vampy look that has a little more life to it than the typical matte vamp shades.
Superglass is a bit more expensive than other MAC glasses. This would be a lot easier to accept if we got more gloss than usual. However, Superglass tubes actually contain less product than the other glosses in the MAC Cosmetics line. The high sparkle payoff is a bit hard to find in other glosses and may end up justifying the cost if this is the look you’re after. For incredibly glittery lips without a gritty feel, Superglass truly takes the cake.

Make Your Makeup Last with MAC
Our favorite cosmetic brand, MAC Cosmetics, is made specifically to resist any active day or a night out on the town. Tougher than regular cosmetics, MAC knows there is much more to the glitz and glamor than just application. For me, there is nothing I hate more than creases on a beautifully done eyelid, or spending a bunch of time on my face makeup or eye makeup only to see the different shades blend together at the sight of sweat or moisture.
To prevent these cosmetic catastrophes, here are a couple products you might want to try (if you haven’t already), as well as a few quick makeup tips:
To avoid eyelid creases on your lid, first apply MAC Paint under your eyeshadow. These Paints blend right into your skin and serve as a base that will keep your eyeshadow looking fresh all day, or night. Some people use the paints as their actual shadow, but I often use it in addition to shadow to help my shadow last longer and stay in place. Paint can double as a simple basic primer that works well with a matte or shimmer look. The paints come in different shades, but my favorite is Bare Canvas – it is just that, a nice, neutral shade that provides the perfect canvas for your shadow. Truth be told I have even dabbed Bare Canvas on my lips to help keep my lip gloss or lip stick on a little longer. :D

Now, shadows are not the only thing that starts to wear out and blend together. So, for a fresh all over look, MAC created its popular Prep + Prime – a makeup primer that you smooth over your face to achieve an impeccable powder application. Many of us use both foundation and powder but with Prep + Prime I have found that for a more natural look the powder itself will do just fine. Of course both can be used if a little more coverage is needed. If you’ve ever wondered how to make your makeup last all day, you’ll definitely want to give Prep + Prime a try. You can usually even stop by the MAC counter and have one of the makeup artists apply it to your skin so you can test it out.
When there is a long day or night ahead, let these top MAC products come to your cosmetic rescue and make your makeup last longer. MAC Paints and MAC Prep + Prime are both top notch MAC essentials that will prevent you from having to take a too many powder breaks – leaving more time for the more important things in life!

Travel Beauty Tips: Looking Great on the Go
Dreaming of escaping to warmer weather this winter? Or just feeling the need to get away after the stressful holiday season? It’s cruise season – the perfect time for a warm weather getaway.
However, airport security has gotten so stringent these days that many of us are tempted to not take anything with us and just shop for whatever we need when we get there. But there’s one thing that is going with us, like it or not: our makeup! Who wants to get on a plane for several hours knowing they’re never going to be able to refresh their lipstick? Forget about it.
Keep It Small and Keep it Few
Airline regulations allow you to carry one personal item onboard a plane, plus one quart-sized clear Ziploc bag with liquids inside. Don’t think you’re going to get that giant bottle of hairspray in that bag – the airline rules out anything larger than 3.4 ounces.
Anything larger than this is going to have to be packed with your suitcase and you know what that means. You’re not going to be fixing your hair or make-up until you land and (hopefully) reclaim your luggage.

Keep your solid items in your purse. Things like lipstick, facial powder and blush will do just fine. Buy travel-sized bottles of liquid make-up and perfume, but here’s a tip: hold off on using that perfume until you land. Airplanes are small and crammed with people. Three hundred different perfumes at high altitude is liable to make everyone sick.
Travel-sized bottles of hairspray are widely available, too. Lotions and creams, even acne cleanser, are going to have to follow the airport rules and regulations. If they don’t fit in the suitcase they’ll get the boot.
Keep It Simple
When you’re traveling, take the opportunity to go a little light on make-up. Stick with a nice lip gloss, blush and a few coats of mascara. Wash your hair and style it simply. Forget about teasing or curling. The thinner atmosphere often plays havoc with hairstyles anyway. Leave it free and flowing, or tie a colorful scarf around it. If you’re flying coach, forget the ponytail. It will drive you mad rubbing up against the back of the seat.
Airlines will let you break the liquid rule only if you have a medical condition to do so, and since no one has ever died from not being able to apply concealer (that we know of) you’ll just have to be patient. Wear a pretty pair of shaded glasses to give your cleaner look a little more color and indulge in some bright earrings. You’ll be landing soon… and looking fabulous doing it.
Laser Skin Treatments – An Overview
Laser skin treatments can produce some truly amazing results. During these various types of treatments, a skilled professional applies laser light to the skin to produce various results and benefits to the skin. Laser light has become an increasingly popular method of treating a variety of skin conditions and providing benefits ranging from scar removal to skin regeneration. A laser skin treatment can provide excellent results with less bleeding, bruising and post-operative pain than any other treatment method available. Depending upon the desired results, there is a laser skin treatment whose procedures can provide an effective remedy.
Laser skin treatments are very effective when it comes to correcting scars, blemishes and other skin problems. These include scarring from acne, brown discoloration from aging, and skin conditions such as rosacea. Laser treatment works over a number of visits to break down the discoloration and help to regenerate new skin growth.
LASER SCAR REMOVAL
CO2 and ERYag lasers are two types of lasers used in the treatment of acne scarring or other scars appearing on the skin caused by inflammation. Both ERYag and CO2 laser skin treatments are known to be effective. Laser skin treatment to remove scarring is performed under general anesthesia as well as local anesthesia on an outpatient basis, depending upon the extent of damage that needs to be corrected.

LASER SKIN RESURFACING
The laser skin resurfacing treatment is another very popular laser skin procedure for skin. This procedure is mainly used to help eliminate the wrinkles, scarring and discoloration of the skin that often occurs due to the aging process. Ablative lasers used in this procedure actually vaporize the top layer of the skin in order to promote the eventual appearance of a new fresher looking skin layer. Treatments using this type of laser require a period of conditioning the skin prior to treatment, as well as a certain amount of downtime while healing takes place. Laser skin resurfacing can also be achieved using no-ablative lasers which rather than vaporize the skin, penetrate to the dermis underneath to stimulate the production of collagen in order to tighten the skin into a more youthful appearance. Side effects for any resurfacing procedures can include swelling, redness and discomfort which can be aided by over the counter pain relief medication and topical medications. By using light from lasers, laser skin resurfacing reaches much deeper layers of your skin than microdermabrasion. The procedure tends to be more comfortable and the results tend to be much longer lasting than other types of skin resurfacing treatments.
LASER TATTOO REMOVAL
Many patients seek out laser skin treatments in order to remove a tattoo from their skin which may now be discolored or no longer wanted for a variety of social or personal reasons. In this treatment, laser pulses are applied in order to break down the ink pigments which are eventually absorbed back into the body. Tattoo removal via laser skin treatment occurs over a period of time, with short sessions held every few weeks as the tattoo’s colors become lighter and less apparent with each treatment.
LASER HAIR REMOVAL
Permanent hair removal using laser treatment is another effective therapy which offers excellent results but usually takes more than one session to complete. Avoiding direct sunlight and treating the area with antibiotic ointment are just a few of the post-procedure steps which must be taken.
No laser skin treatment is a spur of the moment decision. And all laser skin treatments require an initial consultation with a specialist skilled in laser procedures as most require a period of preparation as well as downtime and post-procedure aftercare to avoid any unpleasant side effects such as infection.
Tval Lipgloss Samples
Tval has a pretty great thing going on over at their website: They provide regularly available lip gloss samples for only a dollar or so per sample. Although other companies do offer free samples from time to time, they simply don’t have anything available for us to try when they aren’t currently running a promotion. We just love the idea of being able to try a few (or all) shades for a fraction of the cost of a full-size container before committing to a shade.
These Tval jojoba lip glosses are just delish (a raspberry-blackberry blend with a hint of lemon peel). They offer the sample sizes in both their lip gloss ($1.13 per sample) and lip glaze ($0.94 per sample) products. Head on over to their site and try a few samples!

How to Apply Powder Bronzer
[See the rest of our How to Apply Makeup series for beginners.]
Bronzer is one of my favorite products. By using it correctly, you can get that healthy, gorgeous sun-kissed look you’ve been coveting. But if applied poorly, you can end up looking like an Oompa Loompa. The trick with bronzer is to know when, where and how much to use.
Step 1: Choose Your Brush. Choose a brush with a large, fluffy end. A large powder brush or a large blush brush can work, but just know that you need to make sure it is big enough to allow the product to be dusted on over a large area without being too heavy or leaving streaks.
Step 2: Take your brush and gently swirl it in your bronzer. Whether you’re using a loose powder bronzer, or the more common regular powder bronzer, you just want to get a small amount on your brush. It’s better to start with too little than too much. You can always layer the product to get a deeper color, so start light on your first touch.
Step 3: Tap your brush on the edge of the compact with the brush end over the makeup pot. This helps to eliminate any excess powder from the brush and allows the excess to fall back into the container so that you avoid wasting any.
Step 4: Apply the bronzer to your face in a number 3 shape on one half of your face – starting at the top of your forehead and working your way down the side of your face. The “number 3 shape” will go from your forehead around the side of your forehead and temple, then in towards the upper part of your cheek bone, then back out around your jawline and down to your chin (your jawline and chin should get less product than your forehead and upper cheeks). Next, you’ll repeat the steps and apply it to the other side of your face. Think of focusing on the areas of your face where the sun naturally hits and tans your face.
Step 5: Blend! As you apply the bronzer in the previous step, you should just be creating a gentle glow, not a dark, obvious stripe of product. Once you are done applying it, Be sure to blend well. One of the most tell-tale signs of a poor makeup look is obvious streaking or lack of blending. To blend, use your empty brush to smooth out the product anywhere it looks uneven.
To finish, you can repeat the steps, and/or blend a little extra across the top of your forehead and cheekbones to add a little depth to your color. Just be careful not to go overboard. Too little bronzer looks way better than too much.

Jane Cosmetics Reviews and Recommendations
Jane Cosmetics is a drugstore cosmetic line that is becoming increasingly difficult to track down these days. However, finding it is worth the effort because Jane offers a few products that give much more expensive brands a run for their money. It is geared toward younger girls but women of all ages will appreciate the quality of the products. Although not every product in the line is a winner, there are quite a few gems worth noting. Here are a few of our top picks:
Jane Eye Zings are a reasonable substitute for MAC eyeshadows at a fraction of the price. Once offered in a wide range of colors, selection is now more limited but they are highly pigmented and easy to apply. The downside is that the staying power isn’t incredible and they don’t work well when used wet. They are sold in single shade compacts as well as in eyeshadow palettes.

Jane’s Blushing Petal Blush is a cult classic. It is a neutral pink shade without any shimmer that gives cheeks a soft glow that lasts all day for well under five dollars. It’s one of those colors that looks great on everyone and is very natural.
Jane Oil-Free Finishing Powder is another notable product. Pressed powders are all over drugstore shelves but very few seem to actually get it right. This is one of them. It helps to reduce the appearance of large pores and minimize shininess yet does not look cakey. Even better, it doesn’t clog your skin.
Jane makeup products are dirt cheap, even for drugstore makeup. This means that you can afford to try different items and won’t feel too devastated if they don’t work out. It’s the perfect line to do some experimenting if you are one of those girls who has a hard time finding shades you like. And if you are looking to curb your cosmetic spending, you may very well find some cheaper substitutes for some of your more expensive staples.
Seven Tips for Kissable Lips
With Valentine’s Day just around the corner, here are a few tips to get ultra soft, smooth, kissable lips:
- Apply Vaseline to your lips each night before bedtime. You may have another lip balm product you will want to use instead, but if not, good old Vaseline works wonders.
- Keep an extra toothbrush handy and use it to lightly brush the surface of your lips each day to remove dead or dry skin. You will want to do this just as your Vaseline or other moisturizer is wearing off so that the dry skin comes off smoothly and easily. If you wait until your lips are already dry, it won’t do much good!
- Always use a water-resistant lip balm with SPF protection (yes, even in the winter… and especially while skiing or snowboarding). The skin on your lips is ultra thin and delicate. Since you don’t need to “tan” your lips, too much sun exposure will cause your lips to burn, chap, or worse. This can make applying any type of lip color a nightmare. A protective lip balm will prevent damage and soften your lips all at the same time.
- Use a lip liner that is close to your natural lip color. You don’t want to use one that’s too dark – your lip liner is there to help keep your lip color in place and make it last longer, not to create a distracting line around your mouth.
- When applying lipstick, blot your lipstick with a tissue after applying each layer. This will give your base lip color extra staying power.
- February is a perfect time to try fun, flirty shades in pink, red or berry. Once you’ve finalized your clothing choices, choose a shade that compliments your coloring and goes well with your outfit.
- After applying your lipstick, finish off your look with a soft, shiny lipgloss. But be sure not to go overboard on the gloss – too much can take your lips from gorgeous to gooey. Also, by layering and blotting your lipstick as mentioned in the above step, you won’t have to touch up your lipstick during the evening, which usually requires precision – and a mirror. Glosses are lighter and easier to apply, so you can quickly and easily touch up the shine if needed.

These tips will give you a perfect pout and help your lip color last much longer – throughout your entire Valentine’s Day date, perhaps? ;)
Protect Your Lips
We all know the importance of protecting our skin against overexposure to the sun. But did you know that your lips are at a much greater risk of developing skin cancer than the rest of your skin? The skin on your lips is paper thin and extremely delicate, which makes them extra vulnerable to the sun’s harmful rays.
Skin cancer of the lips accounts for 10 percent of all skin cancer cases. Over 3,500 new cases of skin cancer of the lips are diagnosed each year. Whether you’re skiing and snowboarding this winter, laying out next summer, or just cruising around town anytime of year, here are a few things you can do to help you keep your lips protected:
Choose your lipgloss carefully – Because of it’s shiny, reflective nature, some dermatologists claim that applying lipgloss and then going in the sun is the equivalent of taking a magnifying glass and focusing the concentrated sun rays directly on your lips. Wow. I’m a lipgloss junkie and I’ve never realized how harmful some lip products could be. If you’re going to wear lipgloss, choose one that has a high level of SPF included in its formula.
Use a high SPF Chapstick or lip balm – If your absolute favorite lipgloss doesn’t have SPF in it, you MUST find a chapstick or baselayer lip balm that has it so that you can wear the protective product underneath. Look for an SPF level on the label, or for ingredients like titanium dioxide or zinc oxide (sunscreens that will provide the protection your lips need). We would recommend wearing a lip balm with at least SPF 30 underneath all your lip colors at all times. The bonus: these products will keep your lips extra moisturized too!
Opt for a lipstick instead – Since lipsticks have more pigment than lipglosses, using one will provide you with better sun protection. Matte lipsticks especially have an advantage over glosses because they are less reflective and have the most coverage of lipstick formulas.

How to Apply Liquid Foundation
[See the rest of our How to Apply Makeup series for beginners.]
Foundation is the basis of many great makeup looks. Foundation can help your skin tone appear even and help minimize flaws. A good application can make the difference between a picture-perfect finish and a glamour don’t. We have all seen bad foundation applications on women who look like they are wearing an orange mask or whose faces don’t match their necks. But there is no reason to be intimidated. It is actually quite easy to apply foundation. Here’s how:
1. Color selection is the first step in avoiding obvious foundation lines. It is best to buy foundation at a store where you can try the colors because it can be very difficult to judge shades based on the package alone. Bring someone with you who you trust to give you an honest opinion about whether or not a shade is right for you. Also, be sure to step outside of the store to see how the color looks on your skin in the sunlight. Foundation that looks great in the store could look clown-like in natural light.
2. Begin with well-hydrated skin for even coverage. Moisturize your face and let it sink in for about five minutes.
3. Pour a very small amount of foundation onto your fingertips and dot onto your cheeks, forehead, nose and chin.
4. Using a damp cosmetic sponge, blend each dot outward until all areas of the face are covered. You can apply a little more if needed. After you are satisfied with the results, take your sponge or brush and blend the line where the foundation ends one more time around the perimeter of your face to ensure that no visible lines remain.
5. Dust with loose powder to help set the foundation in place.
6. Check your face in natural light to make sure everything is blended nicely.
Foundation doesn’t have to be scary to apply or look bad. If you’re not confident in your technique, practice before applying the rest of your makeup so that you can wash it off and start over if you aren’t happy with the results.
