Origins Cosmetics

Origins Skincare and Cosmetics focuses on natural ingredients. Origins does offer makeup but they are best known for their skincare line. Unlike many department store cosmetics lines, Origins offers many certified organic skincare products. The invigorating Mint Wash foaming cleanser helped put Origins on the map and now natural ingredients make up the bulk of their products.

Among the most popular Origins Skincare products are the items in their ginger line. Ginger Souffle is a soft, light moisturizer infused with an uplifting ginger-citrus fragrance that started selling out at Origins counters everywhere after being endorsed by Oprah Winfrey. There are also body scrubs, shampoos, and soaps featuring the same great ginger scent. The fragrance is so popular that Origins also offers a Ginger Essence perfume for those who want to enjoy the scent all day.

Origins has teamed up with leading integrative medicine proponent Dr. Andrew Weil to create their Plantidote line. These products feature herbs and plants that help promote skin health. The Plantidote Mega Mushroom Face Serum is formulated with reishi mushrooms, turmeric, ginger, basil, and other herbal ingredients to renew skin and improve its appearance in addition to calming redness. The serum was an instant hit and many people swear by it.

Origins Peace of Mind Sensory Therapy is a specially formulated aromatherapy cream that can be massaged into the temples, forehead, or behind the earlobes for a quick pick-me-up. It gives the skin a cooling sensation and the relaxing scent helps reduce stress and anxiety.

Origins does have a few cosmetics items that stand out. Silk Screen pressed powder is one of the best pressed powders on the market at helping to keep oiliness at bay all day long. It also doesn’t oxidize or turn color on the skin after being applied.

Origins Skincare and Cosmetics is a great introduction into the world of organic beauty for anyone who is a little unsure about buying makeup and skincare from health food stores. It’s a welcome contrast to all of the chemical-filled products at many other department store counters.

After an announcement yesterday, Estee Lauder has confirmed their intentions for Smashbox to become part of the Estee Lauder family. Estee Lauder already owns several popular brands including MAC Cosmetics, Aveda, Origins, Bumble and Bumble, Prescriptives and Clinique as well as their own cosmetics brand. Estee Lauder will purchase Smashbox Beauty Cosmetics Inc. in a deal that is expected to close sometime around July. Their intentions with the deal are to attract a broader base of younger, more modern customers. Estee Lauder believes they have the expertise to help the brand reach its full sales potential. When the company purchase the MAC Cosmetics brand in 1998, it had sales of about $100 million. It has now become an over $1 billion business and Estee Lauder hopes to have the same monetary success will the Smashbox brand.
