MAC: Jeanius Collection

Release Date: March 3rd, 2011
International Release Date: March 2011

MAC’s spring line is starting out fierce with the new collection Jeanius. The collection offers products from eyeshadow, liner, and blush, to lipstick, lipglass, and nail lacquer. As implied by the name, this collection speaks to the denim lover in each of us.

After first glance at all of the products offered in this collection it doesn’t necessarily strike me as a spring collection. When I think of spring, I think of soft pinks, purples and even yellows. This collection does offer some of those, but it mainly includes a lot of grays and blues. I love that the collection name so specifically fits the color scheme. And you do have to hand it to MAC for the way they play on words. At least the name of the collection is genius even if the complete color scheme is not.

And as pretty as I think some of the colors look, I am not exactly sure how they will look on. For me, it takes the right outfit and the right venue to want to wear blue eye makeup. If blues aren’t done right, they just look cheap to me. But MAC does often get it right so I am willing to give this collection a chance.
Some of the nail lacquer colors are particularly interesting to me. I find that I get more into nail polish at the change of the seasons. Spring truly brings out my desire to have my toes nicely painted and my fingers matching in style. Fray-to-order looks like it will be a really pretty color. It is a white matte with soft pink duochrome pearl.

When my nails are painted, I like to have my lip color match when appropriate. I am not sure that any of these lip colors offered in this collection match completely, but I think that the lipstick shade Pretty Please might compliment the nail color nicely. I am excited to try it.

What do you think MAC customers? Is there something in this collection you are especially excited about? Or is this a collection that won’t put a dent in your wallet?

Jeanius is a celebration of the journey America made a national obsession. M∙A∙C keeps up with a Jeanius collection of moody blues and indigo ink, the quantum of modern cool, with four new limited-life denimized Eye Shadows, Lipglass, Blush and Biker Blue Nail Lacquer. Completely riveting.

How to Create Your Own Eyeshadow Palette

For a lot of makeup fans, eyeshadows can be hard to resist. You might go to a cosmetics counter to pick up something else but while you’re standing there waiting for the sales associate to ring you up, there they are… dozens of pretty, fresh eyeshadows begging you to buy them. The next thing you know, you’re at home trying to find a place in your already-overflowing makeup drawer for your newest five shadows. If this sounds like you, it’s time to make your own eyeshadow palette.

Making your own eyeshadow palette makes sense for a lot of reasons. First of all, it’s very practical because it frees up space in your cosmetics drawers. Even if you end up using this newly empty space to justify future makeup purchases, you still have to admit it’s handy. If a lot of your eyeshadows are from MAC, this is also a good idea from an economic standpoint because once you take the eyeshadow pans out of the pots, you can return the empty pots to MAC and get a free lipstick as part of their recycling program.

Perhaps the best reason to make an eyeshadow palette is because this enables you to group colors that go together well all in one place so you can apply them more easily. It can actually take a fair amount of time to shuffle through your makeup drawers and dig out different colors to see if they look good together every day. When you make a palette, you do all the matching work beforehand and then you have everything laid out together for the future. This also helps you use up those colors that you always seem to forget about. Depending on the size of your collection, you could make a few palettes of different color families such as a warm, cool or neutral eyeshadow palette, a summer vs. winter eyeshadow palette, as well a few others like a neon, bright, shimmer, cream or matte eyeshadow palette.

This task will be easiest if most of your shadows are the same size. Many cosmetics brands sell empty palettes that their shadows can fit into. If your shadows are various sizes or from different manufacturers, or if you want to include blushes or other products, you can always make a homemade palette. This is also a great way to save some money. All you need is an empty CD case and some magnetic sheets, which you can pick up from craft or office stores for a few dollars. Take out the plastic piece that holds the CD (this is usually black) and trace it onto the magnetic sheet. Then cut out the piece of magnet and glue it into the CD case. Some eyeshadow pans will stick to the magnet on their own. If not, you will need to cut out some magnetic strips and stick them to the bottom of the shadow pans.

If the shadow comes in some type of compact or other packaging, it will be necessary to remove the shadow from the pot first. This can usually be accomplished by carefully melting the glue underneath the pan. Here are step-by-step instructions on how to de-pot eyeshadows by MAC and other brands. Alternatively, you can often buy shadows in simple pan format. Pan eye shadows are available from MAC on their main maccosmetics.com website as well as their macpro.com website.

It’s always a good idea to label your shadows when you make a palette. It might not seem important now but once you hit the pan and need to replace a shade, you may not be able to remember the name of the color. When you make your palette, create a color guide on a sheet of paper. Make swatches of each color in the same order that they appear in your eye palette and write the name of the shade underneath. Use a piece of paper the same size as a CD booklet and simply insert it into the cover of the CD case. Then close the CD case and there you have it: your very own homemade custom color eyeshadow palette!

MAC: Dare to Wear Collection

MAC Cosmetics Dare to Wear Collection

Join the brigade of loud-and-proud who daily dare to declare their own individuality. High-powered pigment and holographic pearl create a crazy-intense, shine-saturated gloss, combined with eye shadow shades as over-the-top as Lady G live! Not afraid to DARE TO WEAR? Bravo!

Dare to Wear is a fun new collection from MAC for early fall 2010. As the name implies, this collection features a lot of bright, bold colors. However, even the more conservative MAC fans can find a few shades they will feel comfortable wearing so it’s something everyone should check out.

Dare to Wear is pretty straightforward as far as MAC releases go in the sense that it consists only of eyeshadows and lipglasses. Most of the eyeshadows are matte shades with a heavy emphasis on blues and greens. Brown-eyed girls in particular can pull off these colors with ease. One of the loudest colors, the bright blue Zingy, is a limited release that is sure to make a statement. Those looking for a safer blue might want to check out Aqua Subdued, which is a softer turquoise color with enough gray mixed in to help tone down the brightness. MAC has also resurrected the popular Going Bananas shadow from the C-shock collection. This frosty canary yellow shade is surprisingly subtle on the eyes and looks great paired with the Rubenesque Paint Pot.

The Dare to Wear Lipglasses are perfect for days when you want to make a statement with your lips. Ban This! is a pearly true violet shade that is certainly bright but the more adventurous cool-toned girls out there will be able to pull it off, especially when paired with a black or navy blue eye look. So Bad is another vibrant shade but this is one of the more wearable colors in the collection. It’s a straight up coral with gold pearl that looks great on its own but could also be worn with a neutral shade underneath for a more natural look. Dare to Wear is a great way to say goodbye to summer makeup colors before fall sets in.

Ban This! – Deep purple with multi-pearl (Limited Edition)

MAC Cosmetics To The Beach Collection Summer 2010 Images Pictures Swatches

MAC’s To The Beach collection is filled with the sort of items you might expect to find in a summer collection – bronzes and bright colors that look great against tanned skin. Most of us find that the colors we’ve been wearing all winter just don’t look right once we start spending more time outdoors in the summer. MAC comes to the rescue once again with great selections in eye shadow, lipstick, and bronzers.

Everything in this collection features special beach-themed packaging. At first the green eyeshadow pots with white seashells outlined on the front are a bit jarring and almost look like they are not even from MAC. But these cases and the similar green blush compacts with their starfish design actually do have their charm. In fact, it’s fun to pull these out when you’re putting on your makeup and it also makes it easier to find the new summer shades among the sea of black shadow pots you probably have swimming in your makeup drawer. The Sweet & Punch shadow is a fun color that reminds me of key limes. It’s a festive shade perfect for an outdoor lunch or lounging on a boat.

The lipsticks here are perfectly suited to the theme if a bit predictable and boring. Lazy Day is the requisite blue-based pink that only the tannest among us can pull off. Beach Bound is a frosty peach shade that is great if you’re going for a nude lip look, especially if you pair it with the sparkly peach Flurry of Fun Lipglass also in this collection. The lipsticks come in orange tubes with white conch shells and the Lipglasses have orange caps emblazoned with seahorses.

Lustre Drops make a reappearance here from the Style Warrior collection. This is a multi-purpose liquid highlighter that helps you achieve a sun-kissed look. The golden bronze Sun Rush Lustre Drops are the perfect complement to a tan while the Pink Rebel Lustre Drops help give paler skin a fresh glow. Dot on with your fingers or blend into foundation or cream blush for a pearly glow. Scorcher Nail Lacquer could very well be one of the best Nail Lacquers MAC Cosmetics has ever released. It’s the perfect coral shade to paint on your toes for the beach but bright enough that you will want to confine its use only to the summertime.

The Marine Life High-Light Powder is a pressed powder highlighter that uses shades of pink, peach, bronze, and brown to transform the surface of the powder into a work of art depicting a seahorse swimming in the ocean. The design is so beautiful that you almost don’t want to use it but the powder gives such a nice glow that you don’t feel too bad about disturbing the scene.

MAC: Pret a Papier Collection

Release Date: April 22, 2010
International: May 2010

MAC Cosmetics Pret a Papier Collection

Craft Paper Couture – an inspired idea cut like a pattern and whipped up into a frisky little “funny face” frock. Then, strip it back to its essence for Summer 2010 for a Pret-a-Papier colour collection. It was a Project Runway challenge of sorts, with paper as the source, the instigator of ideas, the beginning of something simply, basically beautiful. Lipstick, Lipglass, Eyeshadow, Paint Pot, Chromografic Pencil, Studio Fix Lash, Impeccable Brow Pencil, Sheertone and Mineralize Blushes, and Nail Lacquer in a seamless spectrum of parchment-to-vellum beiges, with an occasional, clever colour spill, coral among the most au courant.

MAC’s Pret a Papier collection is sure to please lovers of beige and coral. The promo materials play up the contrast of bright pinks and peaches against the backdrop of soft golden beige. Even if those don’t rank among your favorite cosmetics colors, there are still a few items here worth checking out.

This collection features two paint pots that match the theme perfectly. The new Coral Crepe Paint Pot is a lovely muted coral shade that is limited edition. There is also Groundwork, a repromote of the classic creamy taupe paint pot that is the perfect base for just about any eyeshadow look.

MAC is offering two coral lipsticks as part of this collection. Dressmaker, Dressmaker is a light coral with some peach thrown in for a result that is bright without being bold and helps you look more awake. Made to Order is the other coral and this one is more on the neutral side for those who want to wear coral but have trouble pulling off so much pink. Both are the Lustre formulation which means you can expect a wash of color with a soft sheen and plenty of hydration. MAC also dug up Archetype from the McQueen collection for this occasion. This beige-gold lipstick creates a nude lip that pairs well the Coral Crepe Paint Pot eye look without competing with it. However, without other bright colors on your face to balance out your look, this lipstick can make you look washed out.

Chromagraphic Pencils are flesh-toned pencil liners that have many great uses. The two available are NC15/NW20 and NW25/NC30 but getting an exact match is not really necessary. These are perfect for your waterline because they aren’t as obvious as using white or a light blue. They can also be used right next to your usual darker eyeliner to help make the dark line look cleaner and more defined.

Five eyeshadows make up part of this collection. Tissue Weight is one of the prettiest. This is a very soft and subtle frosted peach that is great as a lid wash or brow highlighter. Gazette Grey is one of the more unique shades of eyeshadow MAC has released recently. This dark grey-meets-green color has a pearly gold sheen to it that does not immediately call to mind any other color in MAC’s range. Gold and grey seem like an unusual combination but the green helps bring everything together and the result is a dramatic look that is particularly suited to blue eyes.

MAC: Give Me Liberty of London Collection

Release Date: March 11, 2010
US: March 11, 2010
International: April 2010

MAC Cosmetics Give Me Liberty of London Collection

The very latest in a series of famous M?A?Collaborations, it was only a matter of time before the demure-to-daring kaleidoscopic prints of Liberty of London coloured our world with Brit wit and bohemian chic. From the unstudied, Sienna Miller style of Spitalfields Market to the grit-and-glamour of Portobello Road, the swinging London girl has always been an unstoppable M·A·C makeup force! Spring 2010 insists on the ultimate flower fusion, with M?A?C joining forces with Liberty, creating cool Britannia compacts and Lipsticks, Eye Shadows, Powder, Blush, Nail Lacquers and, of course – blushing, bountiful, quite British accessories.

The first thing about this Liberty of London inspired collection that jumps out at you is the packaging. This packaging has a bird and floral theme that is black and white in some places with splashes of color thrown in.

Frankly Fresh lipglass is a true nude lip gloss that isn’t too brown or boring. It’s more of a peachy nude that is slightly pearly and a great color for spring. This pairs well with the Peachstock Satin lipstick that is also offered. Ever Hip Cremesheen is a pretty coral lipstick that has a lot of pink to it for those who can’t pull off peach.

For the eyes, there is the Give Me Liberty of London matte pink eyeshadow as well as a repromote of Dame’s Desire from the Dame Edna collection which is a very fun frosty medium violet shade that fits in well with this collection. One of the prettiest items is the Birds & Berries Veluxe Pearl shadow. It’s a deep blue green color that is more green than blue with a bit of frost. It should come as no surprise that this, like most everything here, is limited edition. You can get almost the same shade in nail polish form in the Blue India Nail Lacquer.

There are also two makeup bags that feature the Liberty of London design. They come in small and medium sizes and have a zipper closure with a big flower pull. A rather expensive white scarf decorated with large red, orange, blue and green flowers rounds out this collection.

The items in Liberty of London do a great job of evoking imagery of London with the names and shades. The packaging is sure to start conversations while still being distinctly MAC-like.

MAC: Spring Colour Forecast Collection

Release Date: February 11, 2010

The MAC Spring Colour Forecast is a four-part collection of colors for spring 2010. Yes, that’s right: four parts. All four will be released on the same day. This collection is so big it’s almost embarrassing. If you don’t have self-control, stay away from your MAC Cosmetics counter because even the pickiest makeup wearers are bound to find several things they can’t live without. The collections are dominated by pretty pastel colors typically associated with spring such as pinks and purples with some coral and bronze thrown in for good measure. There are also two new products making their debut.

Blush ombres are very large blushes that feature different colors blending into one another. For example, Azalea Blossom starts out with lilac at the top which slowly fades into a candy pink. You are supposed to swirl your brush around the compact to mix the colors together, although it’s conceivable that you could control the ratio somewhat with the right application technique. The Ripe Peach blush ombre is the only one that looks very wearable for most people- it’s a peach and pink combination that blends together to make cheeks look coral.

Crush metal pigments are a new twist on the traditional MAC pigments. They are sold in sets of four stackable jars that are reminiscent of sample jars. The formulation is slightly chunkier and much more metallic than their predecessors. Stacked 1 features pinks and purples whereas Stacked 2 consists of neutral bronze colors. The individual colors aren’t named and none of them are exact matches for any existing pigments. As the name implies, these are quite metallic so definitely skip these if mattes look best on you.

MAC has also redesigned their eyeshadow quad packaging in time for this collection, opting for a clear lid with magnetic closure. There are also a number of pink lipsticks here such as the shimmery hot magenta Pink Burst and the more subdued Phlox. Complementary Lipglasses and eye shadows round out the collection.

MAC: All Ages, All Races, All Sexes Collection

Release Date: January 7, 2010

MAC Cosmetics All Ages, All Races, All Sexes Collection

All Ages, All Races, All Sexes is our credo. Now M?A?C takes the “One World” idea further than ever, with a multi-culti colour story intent on a universal focus – spectacularly shaded and shaped brows for all, because beautiful people come in colours! Miraculously matched to the individual, Impeccable Brow Pencil is the ultimate artist’s tool to fill, lengthen and shape, with a firm tip that sharpens application for high-performance precision. Penultimate Brow Marker, in one shade suits all, has a liquefied glide adept at the all-important arch. But that’s not all: Lipstick, Lipglass, Eye Shadow and Nail Lacquer shade extensions speak your language, a match for every international skin tone.

MAC All Ages, All Races, All Sexes is a collection aimed at everyone. As the name implies, any person imaginable could find something they could use in this collection, and that includes long-time MAC loyalists as well as those who have never visited a makeup counter before.

This collection is chock-full of neutral shades and is reminiscent of the N Collection. In fact, MAC dug out the 5N lipstick from N for the occasion. The limited edition shades of lipstick, lipglass, and eyeshadow offered here are all safe bets for those of us who simply can’t pull off bright colors or don’t want to. One of the most exciting things about this collection is the return of Banshee eye shadow from Rebel Rock, a glittery taupe/mauve that complements every eye color. If you missed out on Banshee the first time around, now is the time to stock up!

Brows are heavily emphasized in this collection, with the Impeccable Brow Pencil, the Penultimate Brow Maker, Brow Set, and Brow pencils. Those with lighter hair will be thrilled with the brow offerings for blondes, who normally don’t encounter as many brow color options as darker-haired women. Well-shaped and defined brows can really help frame the face and complete your look, so it’s great to have so many options joining MAC’s permanent collection. The brow pencils and gels are easy to work with and create a natural look. If you’re not a fan of the drawn-on eyebrow look, steer clear of the Penultimate Brow Maker, which is an inky marker that is very noticeable.

One thing to note is that with the launch of this collection, pigment jars will be shrinking. The traditional 7.5 gram jar is being replaced with a 4.3 gram jar. This would be fine if the price reflected the smaller amount, but unfortunately the price will remain the same. There are two new pigment colors: Universal Mix, a sparkly white, and Rich Life, a very dark brown with a hint of silver sparkle that is perfect for creating a smokey eye.

All Ages, All Races, All Sexes is a great collection if you are looking to stock up on neutrals and a great place to look for shades that are suitable for darker skin tones.

MAC: Warm and Cozy Collection

Release Date: December 9, 2009

A fireside fantasy far from the maddening crowd is undeniably appealing. Seek refuge in the warmth, the glow of skin rosy with Refined Golden Mineralize Skinfinish, Shadesticks in Cuddle, Nurture and Snuggle shades, cozy as a mug of cocoa on a bearskin rug. Care Blends Essential Oils in Sweet Orange + Lavender, or Grapefruit + Chamomile feels soothing and sultry when elements are harsh and extreme…add MAC signature innovation with Mineralize All-Over Moisture Lotion, a new permanent product, and see new radiance, revivified lustre, optimum health. Like going on retreat and communing with nature, it’s an earthly way to bring back what the city takes away, and a sensual solution to make life simple, but luxurious. Winter beauty begins here.

MAC Warm & Cozy features many of the colors that you might expect a winter collection to carry: darker shades and neutrals with color names evocative of cuddling up by a warm fire such as Mulled Cider eyeshadow and Warm Me Up lipstick. Part of the fun of winter makeup is getting away with darker shades that you might not be able to pull off during the rest of the year, and from that standpoint this collection does not disappoint.

Warm Me Up Amplified lipstick is a particularly noteworthy shade. It is a great warm pink color that is perfect for everyday wear. It somehow always happens that the best shades turn out to be limited edition and this is no exception. It’s a color that will look great on nearly everyone so grab a few if you really like it.

There are two shades of MAC’s ever-popular Mineralize Skinfinish: Comfort and By Candlelight. By Candlelight is a soft pink color that makes a great highlighter on the cheekbones. You can also use it lightly on your entire face for a pretty all-over natural glow. It is much prettier in person than the description implies.

The Close for Comfort Tinted Lip Conditioner is another great everyday color that gives lips a hint of color without looking overdone. I only wish they would have made it in stick formula for neater application. The Two Tinted Lip Conditioners plus the Lip Conditioner tube and stick in this collection arrive just in time for dry, chapped winter lips.

A new offering is the Care Blends Essentials Oils. These oils are designed to hydrate skin while relaxing your senses. The Sweet Orange + Lavender variety is particularly lovely. You only need to use a small amount, rub it into your skin before you apply foundation, and the result is very soft, dewy skin and a pleasant, uplifting fragrance.

Warm & Cozy is a large collection filled with such a great range of colors that everyone will be able to find something that lights their fire.

MAC: Naked Honey Collection

Release Date: June 11, 2009

Following the example of their fabled Queen, Cleopatra, Egyptians bathed in honey and milk. Queen Anne of England used it to silken her hair; from the Ancient Greeks to the Roman Empire, honey has never lost its regal, ever-amber lustre.

We love the luxury of its sensual essence…but we also know that it’s a highly efficient and wholesome humectant and healer.

Bees do it…now M·A·C does it! Honey, that is! Three aspects of golden warmth and sun-made sweetness for the body, layered with two honeycomb-derived fragrances. Complementary shades of High-Light Powder, Eye Shadow and Lipglass are all the buzz for summer.

Buckwheat – Dark copper brown with multi-dimensional pearl (LE)
Crème de Miel – Frosty light yellow gold (LE)
Pollinator – Mid-tone warm reddened peach with pearl (LE)

Buzz – Dark copper brown with multi-dimensional pearl (LE)
She’s a Star – Light neutral gold (LE/Repromote from Dress Camp)
Queen Bee – Mid-tone apricot with multi-dimensional pearl (LE)

High-Light Powder

A special pearlized highlighting powder. A special limited edition product for the Naked Honey Collection. The product has a gorgeous honeycomb pattern stamped into it that is embossed with gold shimmer. This super-fine textured powder will create soft highlights. To be used on face, cheeks, brows, shoulders, collarbone, or anywhere you want a honey-kissed glow. This is our top recommendation for this collection. I bought both of them and wish I’d bought backups!

Golden Nectar – Muted golden tan with gold shimmer (LE)
Honey Light – A light peachy gold with shimmer (LE)

Naked Honey Salve – $18.50USD/$22.50CDN (LE)

A rich, honey-scented moisturizer made from honey, sunflower oil and organic beeswax. Used to recondition extra dry skin anywhere. This salve

Naked Honey Hand and Body Cream – $22.50USD/$27.00CDN (LE)

This super rich cream is made from top notch ingredients including bio-converted honey, shea butter, and vitamins C and E. It conditions, nourishes and protects your skin and is quick-absorbing. Use anywhere your skin needs an extra dose of softness and moisture.

Naked Honey Body Wash – $19.50USD/$23.50CDN (LE)

Bio-converted honey is also a main ingredient in the Naked Honey Body Wash. The body was also provides skin softening and soothing properties of lavender, narcissus, jasmine flower and blue agave extracts. Cleanses your skin while creating a sensual, calming, cleansing experience. Use this the next time you really need to relax.

Creations Fragrance: Naked Honey – $22.50USD/$28.5CDN (LE)

An aromatic journey that traces honey’s fragrant heart back to summer’s sweetest blooms. Energy starts to buzz, spirits soar, light floral and woodsy notes float toward an electric finale. Sweet and sexy all the way.

Creations Fragrance: Africanimal – $22.50USD/$28.50CDN (LE)

A scent that starts with a honey-ness that’s seductive and given its dash of pepper, not without spice. Add a dark kiss of bergamot and wood, and an aromatic orgy breaks out to create a scent that’s all-honey, but far from sweet.

MAC: Rose Romance Collection

Release Date: April 23rd, 2009

Spring is in the air with MAC’s new collection, A Rose Romance, set to release April 23rd, 2009. If I didn’t have spring fever before, I do now. Seeing what this collection has to offer makes me want to put on my favorite sun dress and flip flops and have some fun with the colors and products included in this collection. There is a little bit of everything from eye colors and lipsticks, to nail polish and perfumes; where do I begin? With my favorites of course!

I am in love with the eye shadow Crème de Violet. It is a vibrant and rich purple with a hew of pink. I think this color will look good with any eye color, but I think it has the potential to really make blue eyes pop. I can’t decide which lipstick color I like the best because they all look so beautiful. I am slightly leaning towards the color A Rose Romance mainly because I love a soft pink lip in the spring time.

When MAC has so many different fun products to offer, my eyes are not always immediately drawn to the nail polish colors, but I really like the nail color with this collection. It’s called Love and Friendship and it is a creamy lavender. I think it is such a feminine color and I can’t wait to try it.

The one thing in the collection I am not sure about is the gel blush. It sounds interesting, but I am just not sold on the idea of a blush that is a gel. I suspect it will stay on a little longer than a powder would, but I think the bold red color might be a little much for me. I do trust MAC though so I am always open to trying new things. Another new thing I might try in this collection is the perfume. If it makes me long for spring as much as the colors of the collection do, I am sold. I have listed the complete collection below, but if we learn of any updates, we’ll be sure to let you know.
