Laser Skin Treatments – An Overview

Jan 06 2010 | Categories: Beauty Tips, Gift Ideas, Health Tips, Makeup Tips for Face, Skin Care, Spa

Laser skin treatments can produce some truly amazing results. During these various types of treatments, a skilled professional applies laser light to the skin to produce various results and benefits to the skin. Laser light has become an increasingly popular method of treating a variety of skin conditions and providing benefits ranging from scar removal to skin regeneration. A laser skin treatment can provide excellent results with less bleeding, bruising and post-operative pain than any other treatment method available. Depending upon the desired results, there is a laser skin treatment whose procedures can provide an effective remedy.

Laser skin treatments are very effective when it comes to correcting scars, blemishes and other skin problems. These include scarring from acne, brown discoloration from aging, and skin conditions such as rosacea. Laser treatment works over a number of visits to break down the discoloration and help to regenerate new skin growth.

LASER SCAR REMOVAL
CO2 and ERYag lasers are two types of lasers used in the treatment of acne scarring or other scars appearing on the skin caused by inflammation. Both ERYag and CO2 laser skin treatments are known to be effective. Laser skin treatment to remove scarring is performed under general anesthesia as well as local anesthesia on an outpatient basis, depending upon the extent of damage that needs to be corrected.

LASER SKIN RESURFACING
The laser skin resurfacing treatment is another very popular laser skin procedure for skin. This procedure is mainly used to help eliminate the wrinkles, scarring and discoloration of the skin that often occurs due to the aging process. Ablative lasers used in this procedure actually vaporize the top layer of the skin in order to promote the eventual appearance of a new fresher looking skin layer. Treatments using this type of laser require a period of conditioning the skin prior to treatment, as well as a certain amount of downtime while healing takes place. Laser skin resurfacing can also be achieved using no-ablative lasers which rather than vaporize the skin, penetrate to the dermis underneath to stimulate the production of collagen in order to tighten the skin into a more youthful appearance. Side effects for any resurfacing procedures can include swelling, redness and discomfort which can be aided by over the counter pain relief medication and topical medications. By using light from lasers, laser skin resurfacing reaches much deeper layers of your skin than microdermabrasion. The procedure tends to be more comfortable and the results tend to be much longer lasting than other types of skin resurfacing treatments.

LASER TATTOO REMOVAL
Many patients seek out laser skin treatments in order to remove a tattoo from their skin which may now be discolored or no longer wanted for a variety of social or personal reasons. In this treatment, laser pulses are applied in order to break down the ink pigments which are eventually absorbed back into the body. Tattoo removal via laser skin treatment occurs over a period of time, with short sessions held every few weeks as the tattoo’s colors become lighter and less apparent with each treatment.

LASER HAIR REMOVAL
Permanent hair removal using laser treatment is another effective therapy which offers excellent results but usually takes more than one session to complete. Avoiding direct sunlight and treating the area with antibiotic ointment are just a few of the post-procedure steps which must be taken.

No laser skin treatment is a spur of the moment decision. And all laser skin treatments require an initial consultation with a specialist skilled in laser procedures as most require a period of preparation as well as downtime and post-procedure aftercare to avoid any unpleasant side effects such as infection.

The Kura Door Holistic Japanese Spa – Review

Overall Rating: A-

Ohmygoodness… this spa was such a gorgeous, authentic spa experience. I absolutely loved my spa experience. The spa features Japanese spa services, a relaxing waiting room and delicious flavored waters, teas, almonds and dried apricots. The locker rooms were nice, not as luxurious as the Papillon Spa I visited in Park City, but were quiet and clean. I received the Ofuro bath experience followed by an excellent massage. Here is a little about the traditional bath:

In Japan, the bath serves as the path to well-being for both body and soul. It is a place in which to gather one’s thoughts and seek refuge from the tensions and stress of everyday life. So it has been for a thousand years in Japan, and so it is still today at the Kura Door.

The Ofuro Bath Experience the tradition of the Japanese Ofuro Bath. Our bath attendant will guide you through this ritual journey as you experience the healing pleasures of Japanese tea and infused bathing waters. Choose from a selection of soothing and detoxifying essential oil, herb, and natural sea salt blends to create your own inspired retreat. Relax into the sound of soft music, the subtle fragrance of cedar, and the water’s embrace.

Your spa attendant helps you choose your essential oils and sea salts and then exfoliates your back in the traditional Japanese fashion. Next, you are left alone in the pleasure of a deep relaxing bath experience. The tubs are deep and can be made hotter or colder according to your preference. They had cucumbers for my eyes, and I was able to bring a few almonds and dried apricots into the spa room with me. I was completely and utterly relaxed. It felt oh so good.

The massage was definitely one of the better ones I’ve received. Be sure to let your massage therapist know what kind of pressure you like.

Overall, I would highly recommend this spa! You can visit their website here: thekuradoor.com.

Ahhh… Juicy Nails. What would I do without you? This salon is by far the best place to get a pedicure in Utah County. The place is pretty popular, so you’ll definitely want to call ahead to get an appointment.

The salon features Shiatsu massage chairs that you can enjoy during your pedicure. They also have a variety of pedicures available – including hot rock massages and paraffin wax treatments.

Try this salon out, you’re going to love it!

Sego Lily Day Spa: RIPOFF WARNING! Spa Review

May 03 2008 | Categories: Spa, Spa & Salon Reviews, Utah Spa and Salon Reviews

Location: Midvale, Utah

Overall Rating: D-

Two words: STAY AWAY. Besides the poor service, imagine being told that your session is actually four times what you were promised at the time you booked your appointment. No joke. Read on…

After calling in to inquire about one of the services advertised on their website, the receptionist confirmed the price as well as the number of sessions for the service – I was told the price would be $95 dollars for two separate massage sessions. The price was stated clearly on the website at the time. Since I had clarified the pricing over the phone, I went ahead and booked my appointment.

Upon arriving at the spa, the daytime receptionist was nice and welcomed me to the spa. The massage was nice – not the most amazing one I’ve ever received, but not bad either.

However, after my session, there were two different women at the desk (possibly the late receptionist and manager?) They were both dark brunettes (with bitter, almost constipated dispositions). The one I spoke with was rude, unprofessional and condescending. The other one looked annoyed and just sat there. One of them informed me that the price of my massage was just under four times the price that had been confirmed to me previously over the phone – $180 for one massage session instead of $95 for two of them.

I told them that I had received confirmation of the lower price, but they insisted that I had to pay the higher amount. Sadly, I didn’t predict that I would need to have written proof of my price confirmation before a visit to a spa LOL. They have you pay after your appointment, so that you will have to pay the price they choose before you are allowed out the door. Needless to say, I didn’t choose to book the second of my two massages (which would then be another $180).

Even though I was shocked at being ripped off and by how treated by the spa, I’m glad that it happened to someone who could expose the dishonest tactics of the spa and prevent other potential customers from being ripped off. Little did the receptionists know I was actually visiting their spa in order to include their day spa in our website’s spa review series. If they would have known, they definitely would have gone to great lengths to avoid being exposed.

Aside from the false pricing, the spa was overpriced for the quality of service – even for the lower price I was promised over the phone and on their website. I strongly recommend choosing another day spa in the area. If you have any friends who have an upcoming service at Sego Lily Spa, urge them cancel, or at least contact the manager (her name is Sadie) before the start of any service and insist that she provide written proof of the price of your service before you book your appointment. Be cautious though as Sadie may have been one of the “evening receptionists” who were behind the ripoff.

Overall, the receptionists at the Sego Lily Mind Body Spa are reason enough to spend your relaxing day (and your hard earned money) somewhere else.
